Rule 4.5 of the Bar Association's Constitution, which came into effect on 1 January 2000, provides that Life Members are appointed for 'exceptional service to the Bar Association or to the profession of the law'. Prior to 1 January 2000 , Honorary Life Members were appointed under Clause 14 of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, for 'exceptional service to the Association, or to the profession of the law'. Queen's Birthday honours and other post-nominals reflect only those awards which were held on the date of appointment.
