Forms
The Barristers' Sickness and Accident Fund was established in 1962. The Fund is a seperate entity to The New South Wales Bar Association and is managed by the trustee company, The Barristers Sickness and Accident Fund Pty Ltd. Six Directors, who are practising barristers, control the Fund and determine both proposals and claims.
- You must be a barrister practising in New South Wales and an Ordinary Member- Class A of the New South Wales Bar
Association.
- You must complete a proposal form providing information which includes your medical history.
Sometimes a medical examination is required. Proposal forms are available online or from the
offices of the New South Wales Bar Association,
- You must select the weekly benefit you require ($100 to $7,500) subject to the benefit selected not
exceeding your average gross weekly income from practice as a barrister during the preceding 12 months.
In the case of members newly admitted to the Bar, this limitation will be given special consideration in
light of specific information submitted with the proposal.
- Once your proposal for insurance is approved, you must pay the annual premium

- Claims are processed promptly.
- The Fund will pay benefits by instalments during the period of disability if that period is protracted.
- You can review your weekly benefit annually
- You choose a weekly benefit from $100 in $100 increments up to a maximum of $7,500, depending on the level of
your income during the preceding twelve months.
- Annual premiums are a percentage of the weekly benefit chosen, based on five year age-bands up to the age of 69.
Cover is not offered after that age. Below is a table showing the various percentages at increments of $500.
